I was awarded this commission through the Richard Seager Arts and Crafts Award. Working alongside the awards team, the English National Opera and the ENO Baylis Youth Company, I was able to design and make a three-dimensional, wall mounted, stained glass installation to be fitted in the Sky Bar of the London Coliseum. I ran online workshops with the Youth Company, drawing and mark making to opera music. Using these marks and patterns, enlarging, overlaying and repeating, I collated them into a cohesive design. The commission enabled me to set up my own workshop in West Wales where I cut, etched, painted and bonded the glass. I transported it to London and oversaw the installation. It was my first collaborative project where multiple artists’ hands came through in my making process. Using multiple techniques, layers and bonding to form three dimensional layers of colour and light that flowed with movement to create a musicality throughout the design. The piece was very personal to the youth members as I used their designs on the glass, etching their handwritten names into the finished piece.
